Freezer Friday Report...

Pears, pears, and more pears...

The children and I have been dealing with a lot of pears this week and have made 9 quarts of pearsauce in addition to the pearsauce we had fresh.  To speed up the process I had a big pot going and then had my two crockpots cooking away.

It may not sound like much for our family of six, but it all starts to add up.  I'll be working on some more next week.  I'll also be making some pear preserves (my dad's special request).

I also put up two quarts of lima beans and that will be the end of the lima beans.

We have been eating fresh black-eyed peas all week, but I haven't had enough to freeze yet.  And probably won't.  The reason-deer.

It was discovered earlier this week that deer have eaten the tops off of everyone of our seven rows of peas.  And they have been into our blueberry bushes and our pears. Very discouraging to say the least.  We have never had this problem before and it just plain makes me mad.  I don't know about everywhere else, but in Alabama every season should be deer season.

We had surprise visitors yesterday and good company helped my freezer cooking go a little better.  Rebekah had to come on this side of town for an errand and she stopped by.  And I'm so glad she did.  We got to talk while I cooked and then we took all our brood down to Arby's for our free turkey sandwich.  I don't know that Arby's knew what they were getting into when they said, "One free sandwich per person."  Together we took up four tables and I'm not sure, but it looked like one person was taking pictures of us with his cell phone.

By the end of the day I had made this:

2 chicken spaghetti casseroles for the freezer
1 rotel-cheese spaghetti casserole for the freezer
31 breakfast burritos
3 chicken pot pies (one for a friend who I was taking supper to, one for our supper, and one for the freezer)
I also made two chocolate pound cakes.

And I was tired.  We had the Hixons over, some school, delivered the meal, took Tyler to his Robotics club meeting and then I fell into bed dog-tired.

Today should be a much more calm day for which I am very grateful.  School and maybe some pear preserves.  A real maybe on the pear preserves...:)
